Protocols for Students with a Positive COVID-19 Test

Monitor Symptoms

Throughout the semester, all students are expected to monitor their own symptoms. We recommend using Parkview’s COVID-19 Symptom Tracker and following the guidance provided through this assessment.

If it is recommended that you seek medical attention, contact your health service provider or the USF Wellness Clinic at (260) 222-9269. If you are experiencing life threatening symptoms, contact 911 immediately.

If you exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 and are awaiting medical care and/or test results, you ought to limit your exposure to the greatest extent possible. Follow CDC guidelines, including:

  • Stay home except to receive medical care
  • Separate yourself from other people
  • Continue to monitor your symptoms

If you are a residential student with a roommate(s) and experience symptoms but are awaiting medical care and/or test results, contact your On-Call RA. You may be relocated to a private room with a private restroom for quarantine.

Positive COVID-19 Test

If any student receives a positive COVID-19 test result, the following steps should be taken. These steps are necessary in order to protect the safety and wellbeing of all University community members.

For Commuter Students

  • Avoid coming into close contact with anyone.
  • Do not come to campus.
  • If you live off-campus but your permanent address is outside of Allen County, please use your Allen County address as your home address when tested.
  • Notify Student Affairs* by calling (260) 399-8100 or emailing [email protected] and provide the following information:
    • First and last name
    • Student ID number
    • Best estimate of the time of exposure and date and time of positive COVID-19 test result, if applicable

For Residential Students

  • Return to your permanent home address if possible. If this is not a suitable option for you, return to your on-campus room.
  • If it is between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, notify Student Affairs* by calling (260) 399-8100 or emailing [email protected]. Outside of these hours, notify the RA On-Call* immediately and provide the following information:
    • First and last name
    • Student ID number
    • Residence hall and room number
    • Roommate contact information
    • Best estimate of the time of exposure and date and time of positive COVID-19 test result, if applicable
  • Please use the USF address (2701 Spring Street, Fort Wayne, IN, 46808) as your home address when tested.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19 and choose to stay on campus for self-quarantine or isolation, you will be required to move to a designated space on campus for a length of time determined by current CDC guidelines.

*After notification, Student Affairs will take the following actions:

  • Notify Allen County Health Department to initiate contact tracing
  • Notify the appropriate Dean, who will notify the student’s faculty.
  • Notify Head Athletic Trainer for student athletes

When To Return to Class

Students should refer to the Indiana Department of Health Quarantine and Isolation Guidance recommendations unless a written alternate diagnosis is provided by a medical professional. Always follow the instruction of a medical professional.
